A Feast for a Bookworm: Week #17 in 2013

A Feast for a Bookworm is weekly post on Bookworm Dreams blog highlighting new books that I either purchased, borrowed, received for review or on a giveaway.
What is the difference between this post and In My Mailbox hosted by The Story Siren or Stacking The Shelves hosted by Tynga's Reviews? None, whatsoever. But I thought that my post deserved some original title. And this is what my husband and me came up with. :)
So new books on the menu for me are:
A Thousand Perfect Things by Kay Kenyon (Fantasy)
Children of Fire by Drew Karpyshyn (Fantasy)
Hopeless by Colleen Hoover (New Adult Contemporary Romance)
Quite Contrary by Richard Roberts (Fantasy)

My self-proclaimed NetGalley and Edelweiss ban is working people! I know it sounds funny considering I've got 4 new books but it's better than 15-20 (and believe me I used to request/download that much weekly).
Quite Contrary is my first review copy I requested directly from publisher. Funny story related to that book. I recently read and loved Nefertiti's Heart, so I looked for Curiosity Quills Press on NetGalley and requested this book (dark retelling of Red Riding Hood). But when they approved my request I saw that there is no 'Send to Kindle' option and that book is expiring/being archived tomorrow. Since I love fairy tale retellings and I really wanted to read Quite Contrary I sent them review request and they accepted, so now I have Kindle-friendly ebook. Yay! Special thanks to Giselle from Xpresso Reads, because her post about requesting ARCs gave me courage and also showed me how to write the email/request.
What do you think I should read first? Did you already read something from this pile? What did you get this week?

Congrats on your first direct-from-publisher reading material :D Giselle helped me out so much when it came to review requests when I was starting out too! She's so awesome-sauce (her word, not mine :p). Children of Fire looks great, I think I want to read it lol!

DeleteI haven't read anything by Colleen Hoover but I heard great things about her, so 'Hopeless' is my test if I should spend my money on 'Slammed'. :)
OH! You got your first review copy straight from the [publisher! I recently just requested my first one and got accepted! The ARCs haven't been printed yet though, so I have to wait until July. BUT STILL. I know how you feel. I don't know about you, but I've only been blogging for four months!

Yay for us and our review copies. I feel more comfortable reading ebooks than paperbacks but I'm so happy for you. I hope they print them soon! I've been blogging for 6 months. :)

I'll be curious to see what you think about Children of Fire and Hopeless especially. They're both ones I'm curious about. I enjoyed Karpyshyn's SW EU books, so I'm interested in his non-SW stuff.
ReplyDeleteHopeless is going to be published soon, so hopefully I will read it next week. Children of Fire is coming out later, so I will postpone reading it. But it's Tor so I am excited. :) I haven't read anything by Drew Karpyshyn. I'm not into much SW, but hush hush or else geek/nerd community will renounce me. ;)
DeleteI read Quite Contrary. Got it from NetGalley, and yes, was disappointed when I could not send to my kindle. I wish it would say that before I requested it somehow. Not much for sitting in front of my computer all the time like that.

I'm not much into cover for Children of Fire - face of that man looks too weird, but it's fantasy so it's a must-read for me. :)
I've heard great things about Hopeless, but haven't read it. I did the same thing with Quite Contrary. I wanted it for my Kindle and the publisher was nice enough to supply it. They're awesome. Happy reading!

Thanks for stopping by! It's great when reaching our directly to a publisher works out. I had a few titles that I was denied on Edelweiss, and I had absolutely no problem getting them directly from the publisher. You rarely get any info when a request is denied, but it turned out they were all regional rights issues with the electronic ARCs . . . but they were more than happy to send the paperback ARCs.

DeleteBTW How they approve requests on Edelweiss is a mystery to me. I get 10 rejects and then get auto-approved for that publisher. I would think it's some error but it happened already three times to me. I guess you just have to be persistent and keep on trying.
